Two recent events should cause great concern over the burgeoning political power of left-wing thinkers in Israel.

"“To define the State of Israel as a Jewish state is the key to its end,” Burg said. “A Jewish state is explosive. It’s dynamite.”

Burg sees the European Union as a possible model for the Middle East: “In my eyes, the European Union is a biblical utopia. I don’t know how long it will last but it is amazing. It is completely Jewish.”

Burg reached this conclusion: “I am the citizen of the world first, and then Jewish. Only after that am I an Israeli.”

Burg compared present-day Israel to Germany in the 1930s and blamed Israel for war crimes. As such, Burg is an excellent example of what happens to Israelis who are completely taken with the ideology of social democracy. The interview is an important reinforcement of a post-Zionist trend that adopts the Palestinian narrative that Israel, as an unjust entity, must be eliminated."
